Katy Perry wins $3.3 million in legal battle against nuns

Katy Perry has been awarded $3.3 million in damages, after a lengthy legal battle over her attempts to buy a Los Angeles convent.

Perry sued businesswoman Dana Hollister over the property, accusing the entrepreneur of ‘fraudulently’ convincing some of the nuns who lived there to back Hollister’s bid for the building over Perry’s.

Hollister, a successful restauranteur, looked to turn the property into a boutique hotel, while Perry sought a private residence for her mother and grandmother. As NY Daily News report, one of the nuns in question claimed that “[Perry] was a very lovely person but her offer is not as good as Dana’s. We’re looking for someone who will care for our property and let it be open for the public to enjoy. She wants it for a private home, a hideaway.”

Now, Perry has been granted $3.3 million in punitive damages, on top of a previous payout of $1.6 million in compensatory damages to help fund the case. “We’re obviously very pleased,” said Perry’s lawyer Eric Rowen.

In addition, one sister of the convent also accused Katy Perry of practising witchcraf, relating to her trip to the Salem Witch Walk in 2014. Sister Rose Catherine Holzman, 86, told the Daily Mail: “I’m sorry but I am just not into witchcraft and I am just not into people who are into witchcraft. It disturbs me, and that was our mother house and our retreat house and it’s sacred ground.”
