There’s a real mix of visuals in the video releases this week. Country images mash with pop sounds, pop icons pour themselves into serving bowls, punks continue to resist from the loudest garage on the block, and kitties gather for a good cause while a collaboration in the dry cleaners leads to super-sized goofing.

So, without further ado — let’s find out who we’re talking about, and who produced some of the funnest, cutest, classiest and cutting-edge videos of this last week.

Lady Antebellum — “You Look Good”

In the eleven years of their career so far Lady Antebellum have represented a certain strength in modern country music. They’ve gathered a bunch of awards from the CMAs and the GRAMMYs and they’ve never strayed too far from their Nashville roots. With new album Heart Break on the horizon the band have started to share tunes… tunes which indicate a stronger pop sensibility than ever before. The video for “You Look Good” captures the spirit of the band’s enterprise well. A party atmosphere, still rootsy and still plenty of blue denim and country references, but like the track — these visuals ‘pop’.

Nada Surf — “Meow Meow Lullaby”

A few years ago Nada Surf were asked to appear on a compilation album released by Nettwerk Records. The collection, For The Kids Too! was to benefit the Lili Claire Foundation, an organization that improves the lives of children and their families living with neurogenetic birth conditions. The band wrote a little ditty — “Meow Meow Lullaby” it’s a sweet song which may have flown under the radar at time of release. However, now with a video that’s populated almost entirely by cats (with some friendly canine observers) Nada Surf may have just won the internet this week.

      Rancid — “Telegraph Avenue”

Preparing to release new album Trouble Maker on June 9th Rancid return with a visceral garage performance of a new track. The video for “Telegraph Avenue” is a shout out to Berkeley Activists and the anti-war protests of the 1960’s. The band’s famous bare knuckle approach to visuals is unaltered here… in fact it’s perhaps more lively than we’d have expected. Loud, electric and visually as punk as it can get “Telegraph Avenue” is a clear message of our times through the lens of an iconic band.

Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark — “La Mitrailleuse”

OMD are ramping up to release The Punishment of Luxury — the thirteenth album in their career. New visual for track “La Mitrailleuse” (French for “The Machine Gun” is a thing of sheer beauty. Shades of grey become the details of a mechanized conflict, the sounds of gunfire on loop spin the wheels of war, and as the video unfolds the progress, and demise of the scene is articulated with a very particular vision. Fans of the bands won’t be disappointed, and newcomers will most likely be inspired to dig into the vast back catalog of a band known, with good reason, as forerunners to EDM.

Big Boi — “Mic Jack Featuring Adam Levine”

Everyone who takes their clothes to the dry-cleaners seems to have a story about lost items, damaged garments of uncooperative employees. The video for Big Boi’s lead track “Mic Jack” from his upcoming album Boomiverse explores those frustrations in the company of featured artist Adam Levine. Missing garments and, trying on a range of alternatives provides a series of rib-tickling alternative universes. The track is sweet and stirs excitement for the new album, while the video captures the chemistry of the two collaborating artists, clearly having a good time goofing around with the concept.

      Katy Perry — “Bon Appetite”

Released at the tail-end of last week Ms Perry, joined by Migos, dropped the visual for a track that already had the internet talking, speculating and scrutinizing the intentions of the trio of joining the pop star. In the video, any nuance to the meaning of “Bon Appetite” is wiped away with a very explicit sequence of events. Perry is prepared as a dish to be consumed, but a team of chefs assembling ingredients. She then gets up on a pole to dance for the boys from the ATL. Pretty simple, really. We should have seen it coming.
