Listen to ‘Spotlight’, Lil Peep’s posthumous collaboration with Marshmello

Marshmello has released ‘Spotlight’, the first track to feature the posthumous vocals of Lil Peep since the rapper’s death last year.

Peep, real name Gustav Ahr, began working with Marshmello on the track only weeks before he passed away on November 15.

Now, the producer has dropped the finished track – and described how Peep’s mother specifically requested its release despite his initial reservations.

“Peep brought an excitement to music that was unparalleled to anybody I’ve ever met. We started an idea together, that unfortunately we were never able to officially finish together. When I listen to this track now I get chills wishing he could hear it”, he said.

“This record is dedicated to Peep’s mother, family, friends and his fans. Gus will live forever through his music and that is something we should all be extremely thankful for.”

In December 2017 a coroner’s report confirmed that Peep died of a fentanyl and Xanax overdose.

Peep is also said to have “tested positive for painkillers and tranquilizers including benzodiazepines and tramadol, as well as cocaine and marijuana”. He “tested negative for alcohol”.

Memorials for the rapper took place in New York and London last month.

Lil Peep’s face was projected onto the House Of Commons at midnight on Saturday December 2 in London, while family members and friends of the rapper paid tribute to him at a service in Long Beach, California the same day.
