Marvel’s ‘Black Widow’ movie now has a writer

Marvel have found a writer for their proposed Black Widow movie.

The film has yet to be officially given the go-ahead, but Scarlett Johansson is reported to be reprising her role as the titular character, after playing her for the first time in Iron Man 2. The actor has since played the Black Widow – aka Natasha Romanova – in a further five films, including the forthcoming Avengers: Infinity War.

Sources have now told Variety that Jac Schaeffer has been named as the writer on the movie. She has also written the screenplay for the upcoming Nasty Women – a female-focused take on Dirty Rotten Scoundrels – which she was asked to work on by Anne Hathaway.

Marvel President Kevin Feige is reported to have met with several other candidates before confirming Schaeffer as the film’s writer. At present, Marvel have not commented on the reports.

Meanwhile, Johansson has called the Black Widow her favourite film role that she has played. Speaking in 2016, she said: “I really like playing Natasha; playing the Black Widow. It’s been an interesting journey, to take a character and grow it over these years, and peel the layers back and be able to, as you do in life, grow with this person.”
