Nelly investigated by British police over alleged sexual assault in Essex

Nelly is being investigated by British police over claims that he sexually assaulted a fan at a gig in Essex.

According to reports, Essex Police are investigating claims that the star assaulted a fan who asked him for a selfie after he performed at Cliffs Pavilion in Southend on December 5 last year.

A recent lawsuit accused Nelly of rape and sexual assault, citing separate incidents in Essex and London. An unnamed woman alleged that the US rapper forced her into a sex act after being invited to an after-party in Southend.

The papers also cited another incident said to have taken place in London in 2016, using both events to further their claim that Nelly “preyed upon fans”.

Both incidents are cited by 22-year-old Monique Greene, who claims she was raped by Nelly on a tour bus outside a Walmart in Seattle.

It is claimed that a UK fan and her friend were invited backstage at Cliffs Pavillion in Southend, before the rapper invited a woman into a side-room. It is then alleged that he performed a sex act in front of her and attempted to take her top off. The lawsuit also says that Nelly then grabbed her hand and forced it onto his penis.

“You may have sold records and have more quid in your bank than I do, but this doesn’t make you any more special than me,” the woman claims to have told him, before he supposedly responded “just do it” and forced her into a sex act. The woman broke free and escaped to a stairwell, before Nelly is said to told her “I will find you”.

A spokesperson for Essex police has said: “We are investigating after a woman reported to us that she was sexually assaulted at an address in Westcliff on December 5, 2017. Enquiries are ongoing.”

Nelly’s attorney, Scott Rosenblum, has responded to the reports, saying: “Nelly welcomes a thorough investigation. Nelly is confident that once investigated, these claims will be determined to be disingenuous.”

“Nelly was accompanied by his girlfriend during this tour and she was at his side throughout. It is important that police investigate every allegation of this nature.”

The US suit also mentions another incident in which Nelly put his hand up an unnamed woman’s skirt at a show at Koko, in Camden, in June 2016.

The Daily Mail reports that one of the woman was British, while the other was an American in the US military stationed in the UK.

Nelly has denied all allegations and is counter-suing. His attorneys have called the claims “completely fabricated”.

Nelly’s lawyer Scott Rosenblum previously said Ms Greene’s claim was “deceitful” and “motivated by money”.

He added: “The recent addition of [UK women] is completely fabricated and an attempt to give credibility to his accuser’s far-fetched story.”
