Stannis actor says he didn’t know “what the scenes were about” while filming ‘Game Of Thrones’

Game of Thrones actor Stephen Dillane has spoken regretfully about his time on the show, saying that he “didn’t know what I was doing” and had to rely on co-stars to “tell me what the scenes were about”.

Dillane portrayed Stannis Baratheon in the HBO show from 2012–15. However, he now says that he was “rather disheartened” by the end of the experience.

“I’ve flicked [the show] on [since leaving] to see if I could figure out what was going on, but I couldn’t,” Dillane told The Times.

“Liam Cunningham [who plays Ser Davos Seaworth] is so passionate about the show. He invests in it in a way I think is quite moving, but it wasn’t my experience.”

“I was entirely dependent on Liam to tell me what the scenes were about — I didn’t know what I was doing until we’d finished filming and it was too late. The damage had been done.”

“I thought no one would believe in me and I was rather disheartened by the end,” he added. “I felt I’d built the castle on non-existent foundations.”

Meanwhile, filming is underway on the eighth and final season of Game of Thrones.

It is expected to hit screens in 2019, after actor Liam Cunningham revealed that filming will continue well into next year.

“We’re filming right up until the summer. When you think about it, up until last season we’d have six months to do ten episodes, so we’re [doing] way more than that for six episodes. So that obviously will translate into longer episodes’, he told TV Guide.
